Cover Story

This summer we will set CPG out onto the internet freeway after over almost two decades of paper publication. We will be entirely web-based. It will take us a few months to retool, but an electronic version of CPG, which was long ago tagged as a “must read freebie” by San Francisco Business Magazine, will be out with features we know the real estate community will find informative, useful and easy to read. With an electronic magazine, you won’t see us on magazine street racks or office waiting rooms any more. That form of business communication has now gone the way of coin-operated telephones.

We’ll still be providing you with what the magazine has always provided you best: ads and articles about commercial real estate and only commercial real estate.

Sure, it took us a while to make the hard decision to switch from print media. It was particularly difficult for me because my father was a printer, a union lithographer. I grew up around the whine of web offset presses in printing plants South of Market, and I loved the smell of oil-based inks in the morning. Those were the days when printing was as big an industry in the City as insurance and banking. But that was also in the last century. Now, with thousands of hits on our website, it’s clear it’s time to move on and leave the past to the history books—electronic history books, of course.
