LA Eyeworks Expands to Beverly Boulevard
Los Angeles: The first l.a. Eyeworks store dedicated to the designs of
co-owners Gai Gherardi and Barbara McReynolds has opened at 7386 Beverly
Boulevard. The partners have transformed the face of optical retailing
and design since opening the original l.a. Eyeworks store in 1979.
The sculptural 1,250 sq. foot store, by architect Neil Denari, transforms
yet preserves a classic neighborhood retail façade. Bespoke furnishings
by the architect inform the retail function of the unique continuous suspended
surface that shapes the interior. As stated by the Los Angeles Times.
"The project should instantly establish him as an important architectural
voice in Los Angeles." An exterior L.E.D. outost streams l.a. Eyeworks
flow of intent, re culture.
In keeping with their philosophy of working with commissioned artist Jim
Isermann to create a permanent wall installation. ISermann's artists,
Gherardi and McReynolds formed panels form a high relief precision grid
along the breadth of space. The store is uniquely Los Angeles, with collaboration
between the frame designers, architect and artist deeply rooted in the
city's culture.
Thai Gherardi and Barbara McReynolds have created an enterprise dedicated
to exploring new ideas. Gherardi and McReynolds emphasize forming alliances
with artists, musicians, architects and graphic designers in order to
explore ideas and potential with new medium. By corssing boundaries they
create a cultural mix where art, design and fashion come together.
